How to Eat Like a Bodybuilder | Lee Haney | Dieting Tips from 8x Undefeated Mr. Olympia

you can't train like a horse and eat like a bird so that made sense it has kept body fat under control you're able to watch it see the quality of muscle growth which was slower but at the same time you didn't have to eat green beans and tuna fish in order to get cut for a show mr haney many people are here to have a look at you can you tell us something about your training in bodybuilding well first of all my training it consists of training at least six to seven days a week sometimes I trained twice a day and I spend roughly three and a half up to four hours in the gym that's twice a day to two hours in the morning and maybe two hours and afternoon what about your food my food is basically this well rounded meals that consists of quality protein will come from things like chicken eggs fish lentils was used some but for the most part it was those particular type of proteins that was used I did use a lot of powdered protein drinks not a lot of them I would some in the off season but it was mostly food then it was carbohydrates of sweet potatoes was at the top you know beta carotene also high fiber low glycemic index is the perfect energy food and then anabolic properties of sweet potatoes and any type of roots was very very good in highly recommended then as far as greens and veggies and that sort of thing I strongly believed in the use of spinach so I use a lot of spinach in my diet which is the perfect multi mineral complex so I used that and it also helped to cleanse the body you know all of that is important in water was this paramount and making sure we kept the system nice and clean and giving the body what it needed other things like pineapple the perfect anti-inflammatory for the joints I would do pineapples twice a day fresh pineapple I would also use things such as walnuts almonds in the diet which is very good I would take in as many as 15 you know 12-15 whole eggs a day you know training for competition in off seasons to develop size and off season as I got closer to a show I would do a mixture of maybe three egg whites and two whole eggs per meal I never believed in just taking egg yellows away because the fact of the matter is the egg yellow contains something called lecithin and choline which have their own fat burning properties let's see what haney looks like well he certainly looks big he looks hard he looks like he's ready this may very well be his fifth win Lee's symmetry looks in fact I think better than ever right now just standing there Lee looks like the winner 243 and a quarter pounds but I've tried to stay true to is making sure that quality nutrition were the part of my daily existence had relates to training for competition on season and offseason I never liked my nutrition to be such that I would end up being 30 20 pounds over my last competition weight so I wanted to make sure that whether I gained 5 10 15 or 20 pounds I was still able to see my abs you see it that's the that's the tale story of everything Abs if you got abs that mean your body fat is is within control if you don't then guess what we need to make some changes bodybuilding is judged mainly on the basis of comparison and experience judges usually need only one or two looks at the top contenders to make up their minds but this isn't what happened in Chicago the top five or six were called out over and over in different combinations they have this new school old school kind of a thing that they're talking about and I think because of the criteria of what's accepted and bodybuilding now sort of threw everything out of whack you know and might you know when I entered my competitions you're talking a 32 inch waist you know with a vacuum well that was no longer the norm once during Yeats came in after me it okay the vacuum went away the small waist went away it just became about mass so the mindset of the bodybuilders as of lately has been let's just get big and now let's try to Train down and get some definition and when doing so you have to go through all type of extremes to get rid of body fat in which you should have never put on in the first place whereby we watched every every ounce of quality as we develop our physique so we were never in a quick-fix situation quick fixes causes a lot of other things you know that really didn't have to happen you know crazy things they help get rid of fat which you should never put on this think about how that stuff wearing your adrenal system then you're doing 8 million miles of aerobics that wears on your system also and you're doing it to your joints because the body is only good for so many bumps in the road you can destroy a pair of shock absorbers by hitting bump bump bump where your knees your back your shoulders it works the same way so give the body what it needs and as you know and a lot of my sayings has been trained to stimulate not annihilate you have to annihilate when you do crazy stuff like get forty or fifty sixty pounds over competition weight then you have to try to bring the weight down in order to see how abs or to get in contest condition

How to Workout Like a Bodybuilder | Lee Haney | Training Tips from 8x Undefeated Mr. Olympia

classic physique is where I come from is where Arnold Robbie Frank Zane that is classic physique they say physique but it's really classic bodybuilding a lot of guys chasing me you know is the sport of bodybuilding has grown tremendously and so have the number of competitors so yes I do have a lot of added competition that Arnold didn't have to face during this era eight Mr Olympias where you gonna go beyond that I felt that was that was it for me but to win it eight years in a row at the age of 31 that was a miracle in itself it was a gift from God yes I had to work hard you just don't hand gifts out you have to go get it and I went and got it with all of my heart with that 8th Olmypia felt like I could finally exhale because when you're on the top there's nowhere to go but down and so you're always focusing on how do I stay here and you know I'm living and I lived you know I had two children while I was training for the mr Olympia stayed on top and was still reigning but there's there's a certain amount of pressure I had businesses going on you know there's a lot of stuff happening so that last Olympia I said what I needed to say and I was ready to bow out and say thank you come in close with me baby hey come on baby let's go the intensity I generally try to work towards preparing for the Olympia 12 months out of the year the intensity starts to increase about six months away from the show and then the final of 12 weeks is when I really start to pour it on because the body cannot withstand a great deal of punishment an entire 17 18 weeks so 12 weeks is very intense well it's a lot different now because I have younger bodybuilders that I meet at competitions and you know one of the things that I'm a sticker on is what are your wheels looking like you know you gotta have some legs listen I'm okay with physique and I love physique but I love a full package too you know that's that's how I grew up and that's where I am so I want to know that a guy actually have calves I want to know they have legs you know so one of the things that I see that's sort of off balance now is athletes don't give enough time to bring it about growth and muscle maturity in the different body parts they're now in a system where they would train one body part a week legs once a week calves once a week particularly calves you know and that's a biggie for me I never will forget when I first visit world's gym and you had Joe Gold there I mean Joe golds was like one of the godfathers of bodybuilding when he came to the gym world because he created worlds and golds gym his name was on both of them so I never will forget as I came in for the first time at Worlds in California ed Giuliano Eddie Giuliano was standing there and he said Joe come out the office and check out this this young kid and so he did in So Joe walked around the circling and watch me and said uh pull up your pants leg kid so I pulled my pants leg up and he looked he said you're going places he didn't give a crap about what he saw up top because everybody got something up top if you don't have wheels you don't make it in the sport of bodybuilding not in the sense of where I came from and the era prior to me so that's a very important deal and so I meet a lot of young athletes you know one of the things I actually I look and then I know it's a lot of them lack calves so I how many days do you be training calves one - two - one two - hey man we train our calves five to six days a week a calf is a stubborn muscle so how do we expect for it to respond you've been walking around on them since you were born so your calf is used to high endurance so in order to go beyond that you got to give us something very different you have to stimulate and nearly annihilate a calf in order for it to respond heavy hard consistent and then I look at the fact that a lot of the athletes are training you know one body part a workout it they have an arm day they have a chest day they got a back day said how ridiculous is that and what I see a lot is immature muscle that particular type of program is more designed for a power lifter the details for actual bodybuilder and so you can see it in a physique the cross striations and the muscle maturity is not here like it used to be so I spend a lot of time rewriting and fixing programs for the younger generation of body builders I'm definitely Pro classic physique classic physique is where I come from if we Arnold Robbie Frank Zane that is classic physique they say physique it is really classic bodybuilding that's what it is it's beautiful bodybuilders you have a vacuum you have a nice lines and yes you have the wheels you know so I see no difference in that I'm really have to see that element of bodybuilding make its way back because I felt that the physiques had sort of gotten out of hand you know what made bodybuilding beautiful was no longer beautiful and classic physique brings that back

and I usually get to Costco probably once a week sometimes twice but it's time to stock up and you guys are coming with me so if I'm going to the store you are too I have one salmon meal a day right now and it's about eight ounces of cooked salmon I really like red meat I think you know the older I get you know the digestion and you know my GI stuff is important to maintain so what I like to do I notice you know as I've gotten older my protein amounts have come down a little bit versus like I remember eating 10 or 12 ounces of cooked meat for a meal now I eat anywhere from you know eight to ten ounces and I feel better like it's not as heavy so red meat sometimes can be a little bit heavy but that's why I eat it a little bit later in the day but I notice like when I'm carbing up for a show and stuff I'll have a few steak meals and just that red meat I always feel like it just really makes my body pop so just you know little things you don't know if that's if you could find the science behind it but the bodybuilding science is it works some of the vegetables I like celery have to check on the dates and make sure the dates are sometimes if you don't check it you buy something expires in two days and you get screwed and you screw yourself mushroom I lied I didn't need five pounds of mushrooms I only needed two avocado good healthy fats wife loves to have she loves avocados so we always pick them up at Costco I have been currently we're we've cut egg whites we've cut out cheat meals and we'll kind of use them as needed or refeed or high carb days that way everything is very monitored almost every couple days you know things are changing my diet changes based on progress and weight and stuff like that so when I do check ins with George is when I wait to hear back and then I see the email or the text or something of what I got to do and it's like like getting a report card like okay what does it say

What Bodybuilders Eat for Breakfast | Johnnie O. Jackson’s Hearty Breakfast

hey IFBB pro Johnny O Jackson welcome to my kitchen what's up muscle and strength we're gonna show you guys what I cooked for breakfast for breakfast I keep it really simple these liquid egg whites really makes life a lot easier instead of like over this bowl cracking and separating eggs you know you just measure and pour in the right amount of liquid egg whites that you want and then you add you know how many whole eggs you normally would use other than that I use grits you know I don't like oatmeal in particular too much so I substitute it with grits just about the same content in grits that are in oatmeal so it exchanges well and works for me I say measure but it's been over 17 years been doing it so I more or less know the portion that I need but for the other guys just a measuring cup will work of course I'll do a cup and a half of liquid egg whites and three eggs in the morning keep it simple this is so easy to eat and taste really well and I just cook up the eggs and then I put them all together I just mix them together I grew up eating grits I'm from New Jersey but my parents are from Georgia so it's a southern thing the grits you know you don't hear that from a lot of people from New Jersey so I grew up eating it I got a taste for it some people don't and it's not as dense as oatmeal as well so it doesn't stay with you as long but it fills you up and does the job breakfast is steady this is what I do for breakfast period this isn't made up this isn't you know something just doing for the camera this is what I truly eat every day for breakfast so breakfast wise only time it changes is if the fam me and the family go out for breakfast you know on the weekend and we'll go to IHOP or stuff like that but I still get eggs and grits while there so you see I put it in microwave about a cup of water for about a minute and then two packets of grits just pour it right on in and this thing this bodybuilding thing I mean the most important thing is like I said it's making your food edible and making the things that you like and making it work you know you can mix and match you know a lot of different things but the most important thing is eating the right foods you know not everything processes into the into what you need it to process into once it enters your body I always tell amateurs or you know people who are looking to turn pro or start bodybuilding the most important thing is nutrition yeah like I said once it's all done the eggs the grits I'll just mix it in together all together here I have breakfast then like I said simple easy simple edible

Juicing with Pro Bodybuilders | Fouad Abiad’s Morning Juice

okay guys so in the last video I saw a lot of the comments on my breakfast video asking me the foods cool but how do you juice so today I'm gonna show you guys how to juice I'm Fouad Abiad and this is your morning juice a lot of people have trouble with their blood work they have elevated liver enzymes elevated kidney enzymes for many different reasons okay one of the ways you can detoxify your body is by vegetable juicing that's what I usually start my day with I get up in the morning I make a quick juice it taste like shit I'm not gonna lie to you it doesn't taste good it's not a vegetable it's not a fruit smoothie or anything like that it's literally vegetables with an apple in there and apple's the only thing that can kind of save you but to make it really work you got to use the vegetables that detoxify your body the most so obviously the first thing you wanna do is wash it because the reason we're doing this is to help detoxify our body so if we're not getting good fresh vegetables or cleaning them you're kind of defeating the purpose because and you're just putting dirt and shit back into your body anyway okay so very simple juicer goes on stuff goes in it's some parsley and cilantro carrot throw an apple in there lemon for liver health and the reason we're juicing and not blending because I don't want the fiber I literally just want the nutrients that are gonna help flush my body and we have a little piece of ginger okay so that's it this is your way to health okay so look there's no easy way to do it nothing in here tastes good like I said the apple and the lemon may save you a little bit but it's disgusting you just gotta get it down it's just once a day it's like medicine okay so has to be done and it's the way to stay healthy that's my morning ritual every morning

Grocery Shopping with Pro Bodybuilders | Regan Grimes’s Grocery Trip

so a big staple would be would be this for sure cheese this is Monterey Jack I have about 1 pound with each meal so could you imagine hey muscle and strength this is Regan Grimes here IFBB Pro and primeval labs athlete I'm here today and I'm going to show you what I eat on my offseason so I'm gonna take you in the grocery store here we're in Venice California at smart and final I'm gonna show you what I'm eating come along so today I'm gonna pick up one of this organic beef this is ninety three percent lean so seven percent fat it's good yeah so main protein sources is beef so ground beef organic chicken breast turkey and salmon all four I really like to use we're missing my coffee so this is I like this Starbucks iced coffee so I take this pre-workout with mega pre white so the primeval labs mega pre white is just pump so I really prefer to take the pump product and then I'll take about like a glass of this just for a little bit of caffeine but not too much yes also like you know sometimes I like egg whites for breakfast I don't always do them but it's it's a good clean protein source that you can get in and it's very easy digestible and it's not heavy on the stomach so yeah so here's some Greek yogurt I like it's like 15 grams of protein per per little carton it's easy to see you know it's kind of a nice treat like after the meal I'll always how usually have one maybe have like two of these a day you know just after a meal just get a little bit of extra I like fruit flavors so a big staple would be would be this for sure cheese this is Monterey Jack I have about 1 pound with each meal so could you imagine yeah so basically for for seasonings what I like is Himalayan sea salt it's good for minerals I actually put it on every meal so I know a lot of people will say you know too much salt is bad I put lots of salt on my meals and it actually it flushes but you got to make sure you drink a lot of water if you're gonna have a lot of a high sodium so you got to make sure you're doing both oh I love this is one of my favorites peach tea peach tea diet Snapple there's five calories per 12 ounces so it's really good I love it have you ever had squirt before it's like grapefruit pop but they have diet version this is 140 calories per thing you can't be having no yes they have it found it yeah diet squirt no it's really good man it's really good yeah I love it yeah so like I've done a prep where I completely cut diet pop and I've done a prep where I've used diet pop or drank diet pop lots and you know I'm not crazy I'm not gonna drink like six a day but like if I have two it's no big deal it's not doing anything you know it's fine if something that simple can like get you through you know to the next meal take advantage of it you know it's not gonna kill you just going to see if these chex are they flavored or are they not these are just if there's no flavor to these so I'm gonna grab honey nut cheerios let me just stock back up cereal could be my last meal of the day it could be the first meal of the day I don't have a specific like carb that I use for each meal I just know like how much carbs I need out of each meal so when I'm like okay I feel like cereal I'll have the cereal as the carb and I'll have beef as the as the protein or I'll have chicken and I'll have pasta and I'll have you know I just always switch it up make sure I'm enjoying my meals and yeah if you don't enjoy them you're not gonna get them in so make sure you know you're making the food taste good as well spend a little more time in the kitchen and it's gonna pay off later so a great tip for that I could give you is picking up these mios or the Dasani drops I have some at home in Canada they're called tang and it's really really good I'm gonna take a shot in the dark in one of these I haven't tried them before but I really like pink lemonade so with this basically I'll keep this beside my sink at home with a glass fill up the water put two squirts of this in smash it down I'll do that like eight times a day anytime I think about it and I'm getting my water in so make sure you stay hydrated well big staple in my offseason is has been pasta it's an easy way to get in like my hundred and twenty hundred and forty grams of carbs you get my tomato sauce tomato and basil it's my favorite one use that and I have I like different types of pasta I did penne for a while and now I'm gonna get the thin spaghetti it also cooks faster so it's called spaghetti teeny I believe sometimes I've it's been called something different but that's the really small one yeah I think it's this one it's I think Stan was here before me thin spaghetti so there's thin spaghetti oh this is it angel hair angel hair so yeah like I said there's different names like I it's four for $5 so I'll get four of these all right so here here we have the berry blast this is a fruit juice could easily afterwards eating a meal you know you might struggle to get the meal in or whatever like 100 3 cups of rice and 8 ounces of Turkey and then once you've eaten that it's very easy you know to have a banana or have an apple a Honey Crisp apple is my favorite right now and then on top of that to get even more food in you can have some juice so here you're gonna get an additional 30 carbs if you're if you're feeling hungry you can even use 16 ounces which is still not that much you can easily drink your your carbs to get to that 200 carb mark so last but not least we're gonna pick up some fruit I'm gonna get a couple bananas and I'm gonna get a couple of my favorite apples which is the Honey Crisp apples so these ones I love these ones they're like they're kind of sweet but they're they're they're crispy like Honey Crisp it's not a good one gotta feel to make sure there's no soft spots nothing worse than a bad apple we're gonna get some blackberries blackberries you put in some oats or you can put in your cream of rice it's really good as well yeah these ones looking not too bad I'm gonna grab like four of them go for some grapes here I love grapes alrighty guys so that's Regan Grimes checking out this is my shopping list and the things that I eat in my offseason to grow I hope you guys enjoyed seeing the foods that I eat hopefully you got a few tips from that and you guys can put it in your own regimen so guys thanks for watching see you soon

What Bodybuilders Eat for Lunch | Fouad Abiad’s Easy Meal

I got a lot of shit for this last time too - guess what I don't give a fuck I like my Pam use it on my frying pans keep everything from sticking I don't think it's gonna kill me okay guys I am Fouad Abiad and I am gonna teach you guys how to eat big and make sure it tastes good you guys have to learn to find ways to make the food taste better so that it keeps you going so what we're gonna do is make lunch and we're gonna have chicken and potatoes so this is an air fryer it's basically a deep fryer but only takes like a tablespoon of oil to fry all these potatoes so it's somewhat healthy but it makes potatoes taste good so I can smash five of these things get like 150 grams of carbs without even blinking an eye very simple we're just gonna cut up our potatoes it doesn't matter how you cut them up it doesn't matter if you make them into fries or cubes or whatever it doesn't really matter the machine doesn't know the difference just get them in there I think it's important to know your body I think it's important to know what your body likes to use for energy and what it digests well and I think you should be able to find something that your body seems to like it seems to use well you eat it half an hour an hour later you're digested you feel like you could eat again if you have to those are good foods if you eat something and it takes you three hours to digest it you either ate way too much food or you ate the wrong kind of food potatoes are cut up all we're gonna do a little bit of salt and we're gonna do some olive oil okay so you supposed to measure like a tablespoon I don't really care so I'm just gonna pour a little bit of oil and a little bit of salt it's done close it turn it on and then we go about 25 minutes I'm just gonna do all the work itself so while that is cooking we'll start making the chicken chicken can taste like shit so I like to cube it and make it in a frying pan seems to be a lot easier since it takes a lot better that way too so I have some fresh chicken breasts that I washed and cleaned this morning I got a lot of shit for this last time to guess what I don't give a fuck I like my pam I use it on my frying pans keep everything from sticking I don't think it's gonna kill me a little bit of pam cooking spray and then simple and now look scissors the cutting board I cut potato on it I just wash it with water and it's clean I don't like cleaning up after like chicken juice and all that shit so it's simple I just cut it with a scissors right over the frying pan there's a little trick I learned from watching Jay Cutler videos I watched Jay Cutler video he's sitting at home cooking breaks out the fork in the scissors I didn't even realize like that's such a good idea I'm like I'm sitting here messing with knives and cutting boards and I'm gonna soap everything down after hopefully some kid will watch this and realize this is the way to do it and then I can pay it forward okay so that's all the chicken we're gonna cook a little bit of salt a little bit of pepper and cover that shit you got to cover it if you don't cover it the juices will evaporate cause you're not cooking with any oil so the juices were the chicken will evaporate and it'll be done on the outside it won't be done on the inside you'll burn the shit out of your chicken so make sure you cover it so that the steam helps it cook and that way you don't need the oil so you can see like with the cover on it I have a little bit of liquid here it's gonna keep my chicken from sticking also when I put the lid on you can see like it's already half cooked so it'll cook a lot faster with the lid on it I used to be this guy that like oh I don't care what it is I'll eat it because it's body building used to put like fucking tuna with oatmeal I didn't care and I thought I was being hardcore and just being stupid take a minute and learn how to cook and learn how to do things the right way and learn how to make food taste good and I said to see you guys in the last breakfast video you're not gonna make it if you just try and eat bland chicken and rice every day every meal of the day for 20 years you're not gonna make it you're gonna eventually you're gonna get sick of bodybuilding it just sucks I don't do this anymore I can't maintain this diet and you're not gonna want to do it so like I stressed in the last video it's important you guys have to learn to find ways to make your food taste better so that it keeps you going eventually when this is halfway done cooking or a little bit more than halfway done cooking you want to take the top off and just leave it off because as you can see now there's a good amount of liquid from steam creating the you know this little pool of water you want to leave the top off and let it cook the rest of the way and this will also get the water to evaporate and kind of brown the chicken a little bit you know you don't want to boil your chicken so I just turn up the heat a little bit and now you can cook the chicken and get rid of this water all at the same time you don't have to go to cooking school you don't to make shit look pretty it's just experience some people are too intimidated to cook oh I don't know how to cook I don't know how to make that I don't know how to do this listen go on YouTube type in something type in how you want to make it or just trial and error man just play with your food try and figure out ways to make it taste better okay so listen very important okay it's a scale get yourself a scale because I know in the offseason I say eat as much as you can and yeah you do have to eat as much as you can but the reverse can happen to in the off season sometimes you get so full and so uncomfortable eating that you start eyeballing your food but it actually becomes smaller and smaller and smaller because you're so full and don't feel like eating use a scale it keeps you eating the same amount whether you're hungry or or not we're just going to do 6 ounces of chicken 6 ounces and 1/8 and it's like home fries okay so that is one pound exactly so I'm gonna smash a pound of potatoes and six ounces of chicken and I'm gonna use these two sauces to do it condiments are a must okay and I know you're saying Oh condiments have sugar condiments have this stop crying okay it's the offseason we're eating to grow a little bit of sugar is not gonna hurt but it's gonna help me get this down in a hurry so ketchup for the potatoes I know it's a lot of ketchup don't fucking run your mouth and then this is tunnel barbecue which is a restaurant windsor actually Tunnel barbecue barbecue sauce put that on the chicken good old barbecue sauce I got that from Ronnie that's why I use all that barbecue sauce cuz Ronnie got huge and he did it so I'm doing it too very simple okay we have a good meal here this is a really good post-workout meal not that I'm having that for a post-workout meal now but if you're gonna have a post-workout meal this is a really good post-workout meal why because we have some quick digesting protein like this is after you've had your shake okay you have your shake first an hour later hour and a half later you're gonna have a real meal this is it gonna have some fast digesting protein with the chicken and we're gonna have a pound of potatoes and carbs a little bit of sugar from the ketchup in the barbecue sauce not a lot of fat so this is all gonna get shuttled back into the muscle and get us ready for tomorrow so there you go
