About Vita SM5 5mg
SM5 contains semaglutide, a once-weekly GLP-1 medicine used for type 2 diabetes and weight management. It comes as freeze-dried powder to mix with bacteriostatic water.

How it works
It acts like GLP-1, a gut hormone: it reduces appetite, slows stomach emptying and helps insulin release when blood sugar is high. Its half-life is about a week.

Clinical reference dose
Clinical reference: Health Canada-approved weight-management labelling starts at 0.25 mg once a week for 4 weeks, then steps up every 4 weeks (0.5, 1, 1.7 mg) to a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg a week. Diabetes labelling tops out at 2 mg a week.
Mixing: adding 2 ml of bacteriostatic water to this 5 mg vial gives 2.5 mg per ml. On a U-100 insulin syringe, 10 units (0.1 ml) then holds 0.25 mg.
Going up too fast is the main cause of nausea and vomiting.

Injection sites
SM5 5mg comes as a freeze-dried powder. Once it is mixed with bacteriostatic water, peptides like this are usually given subcutaneously (subQ): into the fat just under the skin with a short insulin needle, not into muscle.

Finding it. Anywhere on the belly at least 5 cm (2 in) from the navel, avoiding scars, stretch marks and the belt line. Pinch a fold of skin and inject into the fold.
Why people choose it. The most-used subcutaneous site: the most fat, easy to see and reach, and absorption is steady. It is the first site listed on the labels of weekly GLP-1 pens.
Watch out. Move each injection at least 2–3 cm from the last one to avoid lumps (lipohypertrophy).

Why these sites for SM5 5mg
Subcutaneous (subQ)- Same three sites as the pens. Weekly medicines in this class are labelled for the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. Pick one area and move to a new spot each week.
- Belly first. The abdomen has the most fat and the steadiest absorption, and you can see what you are doing. The thigh and back of the arm are there to rotate into.
- Small volumes, short needle. SubQ injections are small (around 1 ml or less per spot). An insulin syringe (4–13 mm) reaches the fat without touching muscle; pinch the skin if you are lean.
- Rotate every time. Move each injection 2–3 cm from the last. Repeating one spot causes hard lumps under the skin that absorb unevenly.
Every time: wash your hands, wipe the vial top and the skin with alcohol and let it dry, use a new sterile needle and syringe, and never share. Thyroid C-cell tumours occurred in rodents; the human risk is unknown.
Injection safety
Use a new sterile needle and syringe every time, wipe the stopper and skin with alcohol, and never share. Redness, heat or swelling that gets worse after a day or two can mean infection and needs a doctor.
You or a family member have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2, you have had pancreatitis, have type 1 diabetes, or are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy.
