What Primobolan is
Methenolone is a DHT-derived anabolic steroid developed by Schering in the early 1960s. It came in two forms: an injectable ester (methenolone enanthate) and an oral (methenolone acetate). Unusually for an oral, the acetate is not 17-alpha-alkylated, so it is much gentler on the liver than most tablets, but it is also weaker. Primobolan was prescribed in some countries for muscle wasting and anemia and has a long history of medical use, including in children and older adults.

The trade-off for mildness is a modest effect. Primobolan is famous for being used by high-profile athletes and actors, but in published comparisons of anabolic strength it sits well below compounds such as nandrolone or trenbolone.
What testosterone adds
Like every anabolic steroid, methenolone suppresses natural testosterone. Testosterone alongside it replaces the base hormone for libido, mood and energy, and provides most of the muscle-building effect. Because methenolone adds no estrogen, estradiol comes from testosterone alone, which tends to keep estrogen-related side effects manageable. The real costs
- Cholesterol. Both compounds lower HDL. The drop is smaller than with oral steroids like Anavar or Winstrol, but it adds up. See steroids and cholesterol.
- Hematocrit. Testosterone and methenolone both raise red blood cell production.
- Suppression. Natural testosterone and sperm production are shut down.
- Hair loss in those genetically prone, since methenolone is DHT-derived, though less than with stronger DHT derivatives.
- Price. Methenolone is one of the most expensive steroids to produce, which matters for the next point.
Fakes and underdosing
Because genuine methenolone is costly, Primobolan is among the most commonly counterfeited or underdosed steroids. Fake products have been found to contain cheaper hormones such as testosterone or nandrolone, or nothing at all. Practical checks:
- Choose suppliers that publish batch-specific laboratory results, not generic certificates.
- Be suspicious of prices far below the market.
- Bloodwork can hint at substitutions: unexpectedly high estradiol on a combination that should add none suggests something else is in the vial.

Expect gradual changes: a firmer, more defined look, steady strength gains and little water weight.
