What each compound adds
- Testosterone is the base: it replaces suppressed natural testosterone and drives most of the muscle-building effect.
- Anavar is an oral DHT derivative that does not convert to estrogen. It adds strength and a firmer, drier look with little water retention.
Oxandrolone has one of the better medical research records among oral steroids. It was studied for weight regain after severe burns, surgery and HIV-related wasting, in Duchenne muscular dystrophy and in Turner syndrome, and was approved in the US until 2023, when it was withdrawn by its makers.

What “clean” hides
Cholesterol
Oxandrolone is one of the strongest HDL-lowering steroids. In medical studies, HDL fell substantially within weeks, even at modest doses. Combined with testosterone, which also lowers HDL, the drop can be large. Low HDL and high LDL together raise long-term cardiovascular risk. Read steroids and cholesterol.
Liver
Anavar is 17-alpha-alkylated. It is considered gentler than Dianabol or Anadrol, but liver enzyme rises, and rarely more serious liver problems, were reported in medical use. See liver support during orals.
Suppression
Both compounds suppress natural testosterone and sperm production.

Supporting heart health
Several habits help limit the cholesterol and blood pressure effects: regular cardio (150 minutes a week of moderate activity, as Canada’s physical activity guidelines suggest), soluble fibre from oats and legumes, oily fish, limiting alcohol and salt, and not smoking. These do not cancel the effects of oral steroids, but they help.
What results look like
Because neither compound causes much water retention when estradiol is in range, changes are gradual. People typically notice strength rising first, then a firmer, more defined look, especially when body fat is already low. Scale weight moves slowly, which some find disappointing compared with Dianabol, but less of the gain disappears afterwards. The combination is often chosen during a calorie deficit to help hold on to muscle, since oxandrolone was shown in medical studies to reduce muscle loss during illness and recovery. Anavar and women
Oxandrolone was prescribed to girls and women in medical settings, including Turner syndrome, which is why it is often called the “women’s steroid”. It is still an androgen. Voice deepening, excess hair growth, acne, menstrual changes and clitoral enlargement can occur, and voice changes may be permanent. Any sign of hoarseness is a reason to stop and see a doctor.
Is it a first combination?
