Testosterone, NPP and Anavar: How the Three Interact

This three-way combination is often promoted as a “quality mass” approach: lean gains without the water of Dianabol. Each part has a logic, but three compounds at once means more variables, more monitoring and more to go wrong. Here is how they interact.

How the side effects interact

Libido and sexual function

Nandrolone is well known for causing low libido and erectile problems in some men. Common causes are suppressed natural testosterone, estradiol pushed too low, and in some people raised prolactin. Testosterone alongside nandrolone helps, which is why nandrolone is not used on its own. Read our prolactin guide.

Estrogen

Testosterone converts to estradiol, nandrolone converts much less, and Anavar not at all. That mix can leave estradiol in a healthy range or, if an aromatase inhibitor is added without testing, too low, with joint pain, low mood and low libido. Testing beats guessing; see estrogen management.

Cholesterol

All three lower HDL, Anavar the most. Combined, HDL can fall to very low levels while LDL rises. See steroids and cholesterol.

Blood and blood pressure

Testosterone and nandrolone both raise hematocrit, and both cause some water retention that pushes blood pressure up.

Liver

Only Anavar is 17-alpha-alkylated, but it is enough to raise liver enzymes in some people.

The joint-comfort claim

Nandrolone’s popularity in this combination rests partly on reports of easier joints. Some of this may come from water retention around joints and from effects on collagen, but animal studies also suggest tendons can become stiffer under nandrolone, and tendon tears are reported in users who lift heavier as their muscles strengthen faster than their connective tissue adapts. Anavar adds strength without extra joint cushioning. If joints or tendons hurt, reduce load and get them assessed by a physiotherapist or sports medicine doctor rather than relying on a compound to mask the problem.

Tracking whether it is working

With slower, drier compounds, the scale is a poor guide. More useful measures are:

• Weekly average body weight rather than daily readings
• Waist circumference at the navel, which shows whether gains are lean
• Strength on two or three core lifts
• Progress photos every two weeks in the same light
• Bloodwork, which shows whether the hormones are where they should be

Recovery takes longer

Nandrolone is among the most suppressive anabolic steroids, and natural testosterone and sperm production often take longer to recover after combinations that include it. • Testosterone, estradiol and prolactin
• Complete blood count (hematocrit, hemoglobin)
• Lipid panel
• Liver enzymes and bilirubin
• Kidney function
• Home blood pressure several times a week

Why not for a first course

With three compounds, a side effect like low libido, acne or high blood pressure could come from any of them, and fixing the wrong one wastes time and adds risk. Learning your response to testosterone alone first gives a baseline for every later decision.
